Antenatal and Postnatal Care

Smear Tests

• Cervical Smear tests are a valuable examination allowing us to identify abnormal changes in the cervix at an early stage. Cervical cancer is common worldwide and can often affect women at younger ages.
  
• The main cause of cervical cancer is a virus called human papilloma virus (HPV). smear tests allow us to screen for HPV and also assess the cervical cells and identify any abnormal cells at an earlier stage.
  
• All our smear tests are carried out by highly experienced GPs using an instrument called a speculum which will allow the doctor to visualise and assess your cervix and to take a smear test.
  
• Abnormal test results are not necessarily of concern and more of an indicator and chance to treat and monitor any abnormalities before they progress.

Antenatal Care

• Standard antenatal checks are carried out through your pregnancy as per NICE guidelines.
• We carry out thorough examinations, urine and blood tests, heartbeat checks and offer a holistic approach to your pregnancy care including general health, lifestyle and dietary advice.
• We aim to offer you appointments with enough time to go through all your questions or concerns without feeling rushed.
• The cost of prescriptions (medications are charged separately), referral letters and Fit Notes are included in the consultation fee.

Post-Natal Care

• Post-natal assessments allow us to check your wellbeing after pregnancy. We also offer in depth contraceptive advice as part of our post-natal appointments.
• Our appointments are designed to give you the time you need to discuss all your needs and so we can carry out a thorough assessment.
• Our checks include both physical and mental health checks, pelvic floor and wound checks (if required).
• We recommend booking these at 6 weeks post pregnancy though we are of course happy to see you if you have any concerns or problems prior to this.

Sexual Health Screenin

• Awareness of sexually transmitted infections is extremely important both for your health and the health of your sexual partners.  
• If you are concerned regarding any symptoms, or if you wish to have a check-up for other reasons please contact us.
• All consultations are completely  confidential and we will not share your records with any other health professional without your consent.
• We offer comprehensive testing for sexually transmitted infections including the following:
  
• Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea
• Mycoplasma genitalium
• Ureaplasma
• Trichomonas vaginalis
• Gardnerella vaginalis
• Herpes Simplex I/II and HIV 1&2/p24 Antigen Hep B Surface Antigen Hep C Abs SyphilisIgG/IgM
